“Thriller” is a song by American recording artist Michael Jackson from his sixth studio album of the same name. It was released on January 23, 1984 by Epic Records, as the seventh single from the album. The song has appeared on mutiple greatest hits compilation albums from Jackson, including HIStory (1995) and This Is It (2009). It was written by Rod Temperton and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones. The song, which has a voice-over rap from actor Vincent Price, had originally been titled “Starlight”.
Musically “Thriller” is a dance-oriented song; the song’s instruments include a bassline and synthesizer. Jackson’s voice is heard in a low register while a continuous arrangement of synthesizers are heard along the bassline. In the song, sound effects such as a creaking door, thunder, feet walking on wooden planks, winds and howling dogs can be heard, and the lyrics contain frightening themes and elements. “Thriller” received positive reviews from critics, though the song was outshone by its music video. “Thriller” became Jackson’s seventh top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart from the album, while reaching the top of the charts in France and Belgium and the top ten in other countries.
“Thriller” was adapted into a highly successful music video, known independently as “Michael Jackson’s Thriller”. At fourteen minutes the video is substantially longer than the song, which ties together a narrative featuring Jackson and actress Ola Ray in a setting heavily inspired by horror films of the 1950s. In the video’s most iconic scene, Jackson leads other actors costumed as zombies in a choreographed dance routine. Though it garnered some criticism for its occult theme and violent imagery, the video was immediately popular and received high critical acclaim, being nominated for six MTV Video Music Awards in 1984 and winning three. Since its release “Thriller” has been often labeled the greatest music video ever made. In 2009 it was added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, the first music video ever selected.

“Billie Jean” is a 1983 hit single from Michael Jackson’s Thriller album. A number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, the song was also the number-one R&B single for nine weeks in the United States and is one of Jackson’s most critically acclaimed songs. It was voted best single of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics’ poll, and received two Grammy Awards in 1984 in the categories Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best New Rhythm & Blues Song.

Michael Jackson – Thriller (Live Bucharest Dangerous Tour 1992)

“Thriller” is a 1984 hit single recorded by Michael Jackson for the Epic label. In the U.S., it reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and number one on the Radio & Records singles charts, while in the UK, it peaked at number ten. On February 20, 2006, the single, as well as the video, was re-released as part of the Visionary: The Video Singles package. The 14-minute video is regarded by MTV as the greatest music video of all-time, and the song itself is considered to be one of Jackson’s signature songs. The single was released slightly earlier in the United Kingdom, in November 1983. The song remains popular as evidenced by sales of over 1,159,000 digital downloads in the U.S. alone and regularly returns to the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, since the chart’s inception in 2005. Written by Rod Temperton, produced by Quincy Jones, and featuring a guest soliloquy from Vincent Price, “Thriller” is one of Jackson’s signature songs, in no small part because of its music video. The original U.S. 7″ single does not feature the rap by Vincent Price. The original name for “Thriller” single was “Starlight Love” and demos put it as “Starlight Sun”. The song is included on Jackson’s Thriller album, which was released on December 1, 1982, and was the seventh and final single pulled from it. A voice-over recording session of “Thriller” appears on the special edition version of the album, released in 2001. This session features additional verses of the rap performed by Vincent Price, which were removed from the final version of the song. The backing track, especially the bassline, has certain similarities to the 1981 number-one R&B hit “Give It to Me Baby” by Rick James. A new edit of the song, omitting much of the intro, was made in 2003 for the compilation Number Ones.

Thriller Album: Thriller is the sixth studio album by American recording artist Michael Jackson. The album was released on November 30, 1982 by Epic Records as the follow-up to Jackson’s critically and commercially successful 1979 album Off the Wall. Thriller explores similar genres to those of Off the Wall, including funk, disco, soul, soft rock, R&B, and pop. Thriller’s lyrics deal with themes including paranoia and the supernatural. With a production budget of $750,000, recording sessions took place between April and November 1982 at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California. Assisted by producer Quincy Jones, Jackson wrote four of Thriller’s nine tracks. Following the release of the album’s first single “The Girl Is Mine”, some observers assumed Thriller would only be a minor hit record. With the release of the second single “Billie Jean”, the album topped the charts in many countries. At its peak, the album was selling a million copies a week worldwide. In just over a year, Thriller became—and currently remains—the best-selling album of all time. Sales are estimated to be over 110 million copies sold worldwide. Seven of the album’s nine songs were released as singles, and all reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album won a record-breaking eight Grammy Awards at the 1984 Grammys. Thriller cemented Jackson’s status as one of the predominant pop stars of the late 20th century, and enabled him to break down racial barriers via his appearances on MTV and meetings with President Ronald Reagan at the White House. The album was one of the first to use music videos as successful promotional tools—the videos for “Thriller”, “Billie Jean” and “Beat It” all received regular rotation on MTV. In 2001, a special edition issue of the album was released, which contains additional audio interviews, a demo recording and the song “Someone In the Dark”, which was a Grammy-winning track from the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial storybook. In 2008, the album was reissued again as Thriller 25, containing re-mixes that feature contemporary artists, a previously unreleased song and a DVD. Thriller ranked number 20 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list in 2003, and was listed by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers at number three in its Definitive 200 Albums of All Time. In 1972, a little girl who was called Susie was murdered. Michael Jackson composed a song for her and published it in 1995. This song had to have a video. However, the song hadn’t got a video. So I made a video for this song in 2005.
This video is for all the little Susies. The killers of them have to suffer from the world. How can the murderes of little Susies live; it’s difficult to understand.
Anyway, you know that Michael Jackson is the king of pop, rock, soul, R&B and disco. “Little Susie” is a proof that he can also can compose wonderful classical songs like Mozart. Also Janet Jackson says “Michael composes songs like Mozart”. She is right, isn’t she?
